Mexico to promote safer digital platforms for children and young people
October 9, 2026
The President of the Republic announced on October 9 that a decree will be published in the coming days to ensure that digital platforms are safe spaces for children and young people, with a greater focus on the risks they face in digital environments. Specifically, she stated that digital platforms must remove posts relating to hate speech, extreme violence, or content related to sexual abuse, cyberbullying and suicide.
This initiative aims to protect minors ensuring that digital platforms are safe environments, in conjunction with a series of measures already announced by the Federal Government.
From a regulatory compliance perspective, companies operating digital platforms must pay particular attention to their child protection mechanisms, their privacy notices, obtaining consent where applicable, and considering features that prevent these risks by design.
What should companies consider?
It is advisable to assess data collection processes for registration and age verification, personal data collection practices, privacy settings, and mechanisms for parental supervision and control.
At Arochi & Lindner, we assist companies seeking to design safe environments and ensure compliance with regulatory provisions through a preventative approach.
